Peter Yardley Jeffs, 87, of Baker City, Oregon, passed away at his residence on September 15, 2022. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022, from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Gray's West & Co. Pioneer Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 1:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church in Baker City, Oregon. Pastor Ian Wolfe will be officiating the service. The interment will be held after the funeral service at Mt. Hope Cemetery with Pastor Dan Martin Officiating; a reception will be held at the First Lutheran Church following the interment.
Peter was born on May 16, 1935, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Lillian Joan Parkman and Samuel Jeffs. He attended high school in Alhambra, California, graduating in 1953. After high school, he attended and graduated from Oregon State University in 1960. He later earned his pilot license and trained in civil engineering.
On March 18, 1962, in Mandan, North Dakota, Peter, and Jule Ann Hendrickson were married, and together they had four children; Jim, Kathleen, Shannon, and Suzanne. Peter and Jule were married for over 60 years, and he was instrumental in raising their four children and positively influenced all of his grandchildren.
For over thirty years, Peter worked for the United States Forest Service Wallowa Whitman National Forest as a civil engineer retiring in 2002. He was steadfast and honest in all of his life’s activities. Peter traveled to Poland with Gideon’s International to spread God’s word.
Peter enjoyed flying, music, guitar playing, fishing, and skiing; he loved the outdoors and camping. Peter also enjoyed gardening, working in his shop, and he loved animals, especially his dog Bear. He was affiliated with many organizations throughout his lifetime, including Kiwanis, Gideons International, First Lutheran Church, McEwen Bible Fellowship, Meals on Wheels, The Bass Club, and the Short Wing Piper Club.
Peter is survived by his wife, Jule Jeffs of Baker City, Oregon; his children James Jeffs of Merrill, Oregon, Kathleen Horacek of Ossian, Indiana, Shannon Martinez of Baker City, Oregon, and Suzanne Smith of Knightstown, Indiana. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, two brothers, Mike and Sam, and sister, Pat. Peter is also preceded in death by a great-grandson Roman Elijah Brooks.
