John "Manny" Woodfin McMinn, 87, of Baker City, Oregon, passed away at his residence on February 23, 2023. A private family gathering for Manny will be held in the near future.
Manny was born on June 5, 1935, in Santa Ana, California, to John Odel McMinn and Esther Helen (Olivares) McMinn. He was given the nickname "Manny" as a baby because he looked like a tiny man. He was raised in Mission Viejo, San Juan, Capistrano, California, and graduated high school at the San Juan Capistrano High School.
Manny married Carrie Lee (Grider) Flynn in El Toro, California, in 1972. They decided to divorce six years later, in 1978. Carrie and Manny had begun to reconnect and had a wonderful friendship in recent years.
He was a bartender for most of his life, working at the Swallows Inn in Camino Capistrano before moving to Bend, Oregon, in 1975. He began working at the Pine Tavern in Bend and worked there for 22 years before retiring in 1997. During his career at the Pine Tavern, Manny tended bar and was known and liked by many people.
When he wasn't tending bar and entertaining his patrons, the activity he enjoyed the most was fishing, but only until his grandchildren were born. Then they became his greatest treasure.
After his retirement in 1997, he moved to Mitchell, Indiana, to be near his daughter and grandchildren. Manny attended all his grandchildren's events and was often found in the bleachers, cheering them on.
In 2021 Manny made his last move to Baker City, Oregon, to be near his closest family. Manny never met a stranger, loved to visit with everyone he met, and had the most incredible sense of humor!
He was American Indian, belonging to the Jauniño Band of Mission Indians and the Acjachemen Nation in Mission Viejo, San Juan, Capistrano.
His family will cherish the fondest of his memories and will miss him dearly.
Manny is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jennifer (McMinn) Spencer and Jeff Spencer of Baker City, Oregon; step-daughters Tracy Lovisone of Baker City, Oregon, and Shirley Bridge of Peoria, Arizona; his ex-wife Carrie Flynn of Baker City, Oregon. His beloved grandchildren also survive him: Amanda Ann Daugherty of Baker City, Oregon, Evan Blake Daugherty of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Lisa Kate Daugherty of Nampa, Idaho, and Joseph Ray Daugherty of Norfolk, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther Helen (Olivares) Crerar and John Odel McMinn, his brother Kenny McMinn, his son-in-law Michael Grant Daugherty, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
