Janet May (Rabe) Mitchell

Janet May Mitchell (Rabe) passed away peacefully on July 14, 2023, at the age of 92. She was born on December 10, 1930, in Southern California to her parents, Henry Rabe and Laverna Rabe (Chatterton).

Janet graduated from Tulare Union High School in 1948 and went on to pursue her passion for nursing. In 1953, she graduated from Nursing School in Seattle, earning her BS degree. Janet dedicated herself to a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse, providing care and compassion to countless patients throughout her life until her well-deserved retirement in 1992.

In 1956, she married the love of her life, Malcolm James Mitchell, with whom she shared many joyous moments. Sadly, Malcolm James Mitchell passed away in May 2020, at the age of 96.

Janet held a special place in the hearts of her family and friends, leaving behind a treasury of beautiful memories. Although no services are scheduled at this time, her legacy of love and kindness will forever thrive within the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Janet's life was adorned with curiosity, and she delighted in continuous learning and reading, nurturing various interests. She was particularly fond of music and played the flute since her high school days. Her passion for the arts extended to painting, quilting, and various crafts, but her gardening skills stood out as she mastered the art taught by her father, becoming a Master Gardener.

A woman of deep Christian faith, Janet led her husband and three boys to a profound understanding of Jesus Christ. She was an esteemed member of the Baker City Church of the Nazarene. Janet's legacy lives on through her three sons: Stan Mitchell (Becky) of Baker City, Oregon; Brian Mitchell (Victoria) of Fresno, California; and Mark Mitchell (Sara) of Tulare, California. Additionally, she leaves behind four beloved grandchildren: David Mitchell of Caldwell, Idaho; Sarah Mitchell of Baker City, Oregon; Jennifer Johnson of Bend, Oregon; and Crystal Markle of Lemoore, California, along with four cherished great-grandchildren.
