Glenda June Pierce passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the home of her son in Baker City, Oregon surrounded by family. Glenda was a long-time resident of Pryor, Oklahoma and Mayes County. She spent her last four years of life near her grandchildren in Iowa and Oregon.
Glenda was born in Pryor, OK to Glen Howard and Prentice Smith Howard on May 14, 1949. She graduated from Pryor High School in 1967. Glenda attended Northeastern State University and graduated with an Elementary Education Degree.
In 1976, Glenda married the love of her life, Harold Franklin Pierce (Frank). Upon marrying Frank, Glenda was blessed with a bonus daughter, Malisa. They were a family of three until 1978 when they welcomed twins, Travis and Greg. Glenda and Frank were married for 46 wonderful years until his death in 2022.
Glenda worked in education her entire career. After one year teaching at Kenwood School and 30+ years teaching kindergarten and Pre-K at Osage Elementary School near Pryor, she retired in 2007. Glenda loved educating young children and enjoyed her teaching colleagues.
Glenda spent her life serving God. She taught bible studies, and Sunday school, and was a steady presence as a volunteer in the youth group at First Baptist Church, Pryor, OK. She loved all the women who came to a bible study she taught in her home for Blue Mountain Baptist Church. She taught the Bible study until two weeks before her passing. Outside of her faith, Glenda enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Glenda never met a stranger, she could talk to anyone from someone in line at Carl’s Jr. to a new person at church. She could be ornery and silly much like her father, Glen. She was a kid at heart.
She leaves to mourn her loss; her brother, Jerry Howard of Mocksville, NC, and her children Malisa Pierce of Tulsa, OK; Travis and wife Wendy Pierce of Des Moines, IA; Greg and his wife Shannon Pierce of Baker City, OR. She is survived by eight grandchildren: Rylea, Lani, Savannah, Maggie, Charlie, Jojo, Ramon, and Aliyah whom she loved dearly. She is survived by one nephew, Marcus. She is also survived by a brother-in-law and several nieces and nephew in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Pierce, her parents, Glen and Prentice Howard, and her sister-in-law, Sue Howard.
Her children, family, and friends are devastated to see her leave this earth but know that she is having a wonderful homecoming. They are grateful that Glenda and Frank are reunited.
There will be a memorial service at Blue Mountain Baptist Church in Baker City, Oregon on Friday, September 15 at 10:00 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Samaritan's Purse through Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel at 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR, 97814.
