Eugene (Pat), 92, went to be with his Heavenly Father on May 14, 2023, after completing his full and wonderful life surrounded by his loving family.
Pat was born March 13, 1931, in Kellogg, Idaho, to Noah Carl and Margaret Hofland Guymon. He attended grade school in Oregon and Whitefish, Montana, returning to Baker, where he completed grades 8-10. Pat then enlisted in the Army in 1948 at Fort Ord, CA, to be stationed in Sendai, Japan, for parachute jump training. After his discharge in 1949, Pat resumed his education in Baker, attending school, playing sports, and working nights at the Oregon Lumber Company, graduating in 1951. He and Nadine Milton were married in 1952. Pat worked on the construction of the McNary Dam, the Hungry Horse Dam, and the Brownlee Dam, finally moving into a career at the Oregon Dept of Motor Vehicles, where he steadily advanced to become the Regional Supervisor of Eastern Oregon, retiring after 35 years.
Pat was an avid sports enthusiast, especially local, concerning the Baker City High School Bulldogs. He bled Purple and Gold; it was his own "Booster Club"! He participated in the City League sports of basketball, softball, and golf.
Pat was so enthusiastic locally that he acted as an unofficial Historian for the local area, accumulating extensive memorabilia documenting his and the families' lives, including pictures of everyone & everything old and new. He and Nadine kept track of and were concerned with every family member and everyone in the community he loved. He loved and greatly anticipated the annual family reunions, community events, holiday celebrations, and Memorial Days, placing flowers at the graves of family and friends.
Pat's life and energy primarily focused on his faith and church. On any Sunday, he was visibly present, meeting and greeting new and familiar faces, ensuring everyone felt welcome. If anyone was missing, he would reach out with a phone call to ensure they were OK.
His individual enjoyments included morning coffee amid BS-ing with friends, along with playing a variety of card games as well as pan at the Elks Club. Pat never met a stranger; when he started a conversation, he could go on forever, joking, needling his friends who came to expect it.
Pat was preceded in death by his wife Nadine, his Dad, Noah Carl and Mother Margaret England, son Jon, and brother Dick.
Pat is survived by his son Gary David, daughter Teri Lynn, son Timothy Carl, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials should be directed to the Baker High School Athletics Program, Baker Community Connections, or a Charity of choice through Gray's West & Co. Pioneer Chapel at 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
A memorial service for Pat and his wife Nadine will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 3:00 PM at the Baker City Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Troy Teeter officiating the service. A reception will follow the service at 4:00 PM at the Baker City Church of the Nazarene,1250 Hughes Lane, Baker City, Oregon.
