Donna Larsen, age 87, a former resident of Baker City for nearly 30 years, died peacefully on November 4, 2023, in Bend, Oregon.
Donna was born on September 23, 1936, in Arcadia, Utah, to her parents James and Melba Larsen. She had seven siblings and never lacked for a playmate. Arcadia was a small thriving farming community and Donna learned about cows, chickens, hauling hay, and riding horses. She lived through the Great Depression and World War II, and learned to make do and do without, yet she spoke of this time very joyfully.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1954 and then attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, and married Jay Boman in 1957. They lived in Washington, California, then settled in Baker in the early 60s.
She was a very good mother. She spent her time reading and telling stories to her children, growing a garden, canning, making bread, and sewing clothing and quilts.
Donna taught elementary school at both South and North Baker Elementaries. She loved her students and teaching. She was also a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her life was filled with service to others.
Donna married Hurshel Quebbeman in 1997 and moved to Island City. They enjoyed many happy years together traveling and visiting children and grandchildren.
Donna is survived by her five children: Melody (Mike) Seabold of Hillsboro, OR; Margaret (Ken) Ecklund of Bend, OR; Rosalie (Carl) Sumsion of St Helens, OR; Duane (Anne) Boman of Baker OR: and Dean (Kathy) Boman of Baker OR and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Donna will be held on Saturday, November 11th, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Baker City.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research through Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel at 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
