David W Bobo

It is with extremely heavy hearts that we inform you that our husband, father, and your friend, Dave Bobo passed away on August 19, 2023, at the age of 81 years old.  Dave has been a resident of Baker City, Oregon since moving here in 1973.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol and his four daughters and their husbands Christi and Roger Linscott of Clinton, Utah; Kathie and Greg Pointer of Baker City; Michelle and Duane Amundson of Baker City, and Stephanie and John Nuttall, also of Baker City; his nine grandchildren – Joshua Linscott (Traelee Linscott), Bethany Lowe (Dan Lowe), Kate Wilson (Nate Wilson), Kim Martinez (Chato Martinez), Kayley AhHee (James AhHee), Ethan Remien (Gabby Trebilcock), Sydney Remien (Preston Rancourt), Jordan Remien, and Caleb Nuttall.  He also has eight great-grandchildren.     

Dave was born in Redlands, California on March 26, 1942, to Jim and Lula Bobo.  He grew up loving sports.  He spent countless hours playing catch with his childhood friend, Betty Kimbell.  In high school, he loved playing baseball and football.  In high school Spanish class, he met the love of his life, Carol Soffel.  He greatly enjoyed making her blush, as evidenced by kissing her in front of his buddies on their first date!  They were engaged in February of 1962, intending on getting married in June of 1963.  After a week apart, with Carol and her family at the World’s Fair in Seattle, they realized they didn’t want to be apart anymore.  Dave told his mom that “for two cents, I’d ask Carol to marry me;”  he came back a few minutes later and found two pennies on the table.  Carol came home on a Tuesday, and they were married on Saturday, August 11, 1962.  Dave joined the Redlands Police Department in 1965, where he met some lifelong friends.  After attending the California Highway Patrol Academy in 1970 in Sacramento, California for 16 weeks, he returned to Southern California to Carol and his first three daughters.  During this time, he and some of his buddies would regularly travel to Baker to go hunting.  By 1973, they knew Baker was the place for them!  After they moved to Baker, and were blessed with a fourth daughter, Stephanie. Dave was employed in workman’s compensation insurance for 40 years.  Some of Dave's favorite pastimes were hunting, going for rides looking for deer and elk, four-wheeling, huckleberrying, mowing lawns, and washing his cars.  He LOVED spending time with his nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  In the past few years, Dave had become very involved with and loved his church family at McEwen Fellowship in Sumpter, Oregon.  They were very dear to him and quickly grew into his heart.  Dave will always be remembered for his laughter, his teasing and playing pranks, turning on his oldies music and dancing for hours.  Most of all, he will be remembered for his overwhelming love.  Dave loved his five girls and all of his family ferociously.  He was a very brave man and his girls always felt safe, knowing their dad and husband was watching out for them.  After the doctors spoke with him and he knew he wouldn’t get better, he was profoundly saddened, but he wasn’t afraid of dying.  He wanted to be with his family longer, but he was so certain and confident of God’s promises for him that he was ready to go and not afraid, repeatedly saying in his final moments, “Let’s go.  Let’s go.”  As he peacefully and comfortably passed away, Dave was surrounded by many that he loved.   

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at the Nazarene Church (1250 Hughes Lane, Baker City, OR) on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 2:00 PM.  The Bobo family invites all to join them for the service, but will be having an immediate family graveside service for just Carol and the girls.  Memorial contributions in Dave’s honor and memory may be made to the McEwen Fellowship Benevolence Fund through Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel at 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR, 97814.
