Carolyn Edgar Leggett, 78, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, at her home on the Leggett family ranch in Haines, Oregon, with her loving husband, Deryl Leggett, and son, Anthony Leggett, at her side.
Carolyn was born on March 10, 1947, in Battle Mountain, Nevada, to Willis Elwyn Edgar and Marvelle Sego Edgar. She and her siblings had many wild adventures in the Nevada desert and at her father's mines. She graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1965 and attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, for a short time. From 1969 to 1970, Carolyn faithfully served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New Zealand South Mission, where she developed a deep love for the Maori people.
After returning home from her mission, Carolyn devoted herself to caring for her mother during her battle with colon cancer until her passing, a reflection of the quiet, steadfast compassion that would define her life.
Carolyn later moved to Nyssa, Oregon, where she met the love of her life, Deryl Leggett. The two met while Carolyn was renting an apartment in a six-plex owned by Deryl, a vocational agriculture teacher, and his business partner, Dale Schraughnagel. Carolyn and Deryl were married on November 22, 1975, in Nyssa, Oregon, and were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 2, 1976.
Together, Deryl and Carolyn raised three children, Angela, Anthony, and Andrew, on the Leggett family ranch. Carolyn was a devoted full-time wife and mother, a role she cherished and in which she found deep purpose. Through her example, she instilled in her children a love of family, faith in God, devotion to country, and a deep care for one another.
Carolyn was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served in numerous callings, including Primary teacher, music leader and pianist, Achievement Days leader, Relief Society teacher, Visiting Teacher, and Ministering sister. She also served twice in ward Relief Society presidencies and once in a Stake Relief Society presidency alongside dear friend Marjori Kerns and Dorothy Wooters. Carolyn was known for her immediate and generous response to those in need, often delivering flowers or meals. When dinners were required, she firmly believed soup alone would not suffice; she always brought a full-course meal. She always sent cards to her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews on their birthdays and holidays. Many of the younger children had no idea what a physical greeting card was! After their parents explained it to them, they were so touched that she took the time to write a personal message in a card and send it to them.
In addition to caring for her own family, Carolyn lovingly cared for her aging mother-in-law in her home on the family ranch until her passing in 2013. Her countless acts of service, charity, and quiet sacrifice stand as a lasting testimony of her devotion to her Savior, Jesus Christ, and remain an enduring example to all who knew her.
Carolyn was blessed with many talents and hobbies, including scrapbooking, crocheting, playing the piano, and writing. She was especially known for her unique storytelling style, which she shared each year through her cherished family Christmas letters, poetic, humorous, and filled with stories from the year's adventures that family and friends eagerly anticipated.
Beyond her church and family service, Carolyn also served for a time as a board member on the Blue Mountain Community College Foundation, representing Baker County.
Carolyn is survived by her beloved husband, Deryl Leggett, of Haines, Oregon; her daughter, Angela Kolilis (husband Dan Kolilis); her sons, Anthony Leggett (wife Kara Leggett), of Haines, and Andrew Leggett, of Pendleton; her siblings, Terry Edgar (wife Treesa Edgar), of Farmington, Utah; Gerald "Squeege" Edgar (wife Debbie Edgar), of Wilder, Idaho; Kathy Pierce and Diana Haghighi, of Bountiful, Utah; her brother- and sister-in-law, Bill and Bonnie Leggett, of Portland, Oregon; and her grandchildren, McKenzie Baumgartner (husband Carter Baumgartner), of Meridian, Idaho; Madysen Louk (husband Trejan Louk), of Rigby, Idaho; Brigham Leggett, Anastasia Leggett, Bryson Leggett, Lucas Kolilis, and Ayla Kolilis, all of Haines, Oregon. She is also survived by a soon-to-be great-granddaughter, Rome Louk, of Rigby, Idaho, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis Elwyn Edgar and Marvelle Sego Edgar, and her sister-in-law, Janine Wilson.
